Room Dividers

Room Dividers

If you have a room that you want to divide for multiple uses, without using walls that delimit the space, you can use home decor elements and easily implement your interior design ideas. Small houses often require combining living and dining areas in a room, and small studio apartments may even require combining living and sleeping areas. Large houses require divisions as they sometimes do not have enough walls. When designing the interior of your house, it is good for you to know how to share a room without all the cost and workload for an extra wall.

1- Use carpets and rugs to create separate areas in the same room.

Carpets are good for defining space. If you need to create a dining area and a living room in the same room, place a mat between the living room seating and place another mat under the dining table and chairs. The two mats provide a good central focus for both functions. If you want a sharper division, choose rugs that have different looks and styles.

2- Divide your room with open shelves.

An easy way to divide the room is to place a shelf unit just between the areas. It also provides functionality. Open shelving units can be accessed from both sides, so it is functional and keeps the space visually open, unlike a wall.

3 – Place a room divider or a folding screen.

Using a folding screen is a nice option for sharing a room. Decorative screens are available in many decor stores, and it is very easy to install them. If you need privacy between the two spaces and do not want to give up a decorative look, use a folding screen. Room dividers and folding screens may not be best for small rooms because they can distract you and feel cramped.

4 – Use different colors.

If there are two separate functions in a large room, visual splitting is possible using different color palettes. Just be careful not to choose extremely different colors, as it can cause visual distraction.

5- Place your furniture and create walkways.

Separate groups of furniture actually delimit two different areas. Once you have arranged your furniture placement, check out how to move around the room. If possible, place your furniture so that you can move very comfortably between the separate areas.

If there are natural corridors in the room that are formed by the door positions, divide the areas in such a way that you do not have to go through both areas to go from one door to another.

6- Check the vertical presence between different areas.

The vertical height of the furniture has an important effect on how the space is perceived. You can use different heights to visually divide the room. For example, you can use narrow highchairs in the living room, and in the other part of the room you can use low sofas.

7- Other options for sharing a room may include the use of a decorative or angled curtain, a large rectangular aquarium, an extended bar, a sliding glass door, a large headboard, a sliding board or a fretboard screen. Choose one that fits your ideas into decor and see how easy it is to split a room!

What you need to avoid are extreme changes between the two separate areas. The areas should be distinct, but do not forget that people will see them together, so it is important to keep some cohesion.
